Light and Peace claims victory in Anguilla Day boat race

Light and Peace took first place in this year’s Anguilla Day boat race, held at Sandy Ground on 30 May as part of the island’s annual national celebrations.

The morning event saw spectators line the shore, cheering as the boats battled shifting winds and tight turns in one of the most exciting races of the season.

After the winner came in, Real Deal finished second, followed by De Wizard in third, Speed and Comfort in fourth, and Sonic in fifth place.

The first prize was EC$10,000, second was $8,500, the third place winner got $7,500, fourth walked away with $6,500 and fifth got $5,500.

All the other competitors received $3,000 for taking part.

The event marked the third race in a 14-race series that makes up Anguilla’s A-Class boat racing season.

A-Class boats are the island’s largest and fastest sailing vessels, known for their fierce competition and deep cultural significance.

Each boat is at least 28 feet long and typically crewed by up to 12 experienced sailors.

The Anguilla Day race is one of the most prestigious events on the boat racing calendar and a highlight of the national holiday.
