The Labour Department has started issuing identification cards to new work permit holders in Anguilla, according to labour minister Kenneth Hodge.
The cards are being granted for new permits, renewals, temporary and self-employed work permits, as well as work permit exemptions, he explained.
Speaking during a government press conference on Monday, 2 December, Hodge stressed that the cards are not being given to anyone who already has an active work permit.
However, they will be given for permits “moving forward”, he said.
“This means that each person will be granted an ID card once a permit exemption has renewed, or once a new one is granted to them,” the minister explained.
Hodge encouraged anyone who receives a work permit card to keep it with them at all times.
“Because when the labour inspectors come around, you are required to produce your work permit ID card to identify yourself as being a valid work permit holder,” he said.
“We are aware that there are number of persons working illegally, and as we find out, we will deal with those situations as they come up.”
