Vulnerable households in Anguilla whose electricity was disconnected for non-payment over the past six months received government assistance this Christmas.
Under the Lights for Christmas programme, eligible customers had their electricity reconnected, outstanding bills cleared, and an additional EC$500 credited to their accounts.
“This measure is designed to provide immediate relief and help ease the financial burden on vulnerable households during the Christmas season,” a government press release said on 21 December.

Anyone who wanted to be reconnected before Christmas was asked to visit ANGLEC’s Customer Service Department to make a request between 22 and 24 December.
ANGLEC verified eligibility by confirming that the customer’s disconnection resulted from non-payment and that the circumstances aligned with the programme’s purpose.
“This initiative is intended only for customers who are require genuine financial assistance and have been without power for any period ranging from one day up to six months,” the government said.
“It is not a general bill-payment programme, and customers are encouraged to maintain their accounts in good standing.”
The press release stressed that customers should not allow their service to be disconnected in anticipation of receiving assistance.
