Government officials attend UKOT leaders caucus in British Virgin Islands

Leading officials from the Government of Anguilla participated in the Caribbean UK Overseas Territories Leaders Caucus in the British Virgin Islands.

Premier Cora Richardson Hodge, who also serves as finance minister, attended the event with Marisa Harding Hodge, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance on 23 October.

The caucus serves as a critical platform for dialogue and collaboration among Caribbean overseas territories, a government press release said.

It provides an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) with the United Kingdom government.

Leaders spoke about constitutional advancement and good governance, financial services and beneficial ownership, border security and regional cooperation, and climate change and resilience.

They also discussed economic resilience and trade opportunities, and access to healthcare and education in the United Kingdom.

The meeting allowed for the coordination of positions and reaffirmed a collective commitment to strengthening the UKOT partnership through cooperation and shared advocacy, the press release said.

Premier Cora Richardson Hodge is also set to join a panel discussion under the sub-theme, ‘Our place in the world: The evolving diplomacy of overseas territories’.

“Anguilla remains steadfast in promoting its national interests and contributing to a unified regional voice on matters of mutual importance to the Caribbean overseas territories,” the press release said.
