The first phase of building work on a new classroom and information technology block at Vivien Vanterpool Primary School is nearing completion.
According to a government Facebook post on 14 August, the crew from Orchard, Romney, Beck and Associates are busily closing off works.
They are also preparing to “move the container” for further expansion of the block, the post said.
The block was built to replace part of the school that sat close to the sea and was badly damaged during the devastating Category 5 storm Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The government said this is a much needed upgrade to the educational facility which Premier Ellis Webster, who is also representative for Island Harbour, has been keen to see completed.
In 2023, Ani Private Resort donated US$200,000 to the government to assist with the build, while the government at the time committed EC$950,000.
Government representatives took part in a groundbreaking ceremony at the site on 16 February, 2023, and developers made the first pour of concrete for the new block on 19 January, this year.
Work has steadily progressed ever since, and over the next two weeks classrooms will be made ready to welcome students back to school for the coming academic year, the post said.
Vivien Vanterpool Primary School was built in Island Harbour on the north east coast of Anguilla in 1971.
