Blessing ceremony marks opening of Genesis Residences in Cove Bay

A blessing ceremony was held recently to mark the opening of a new rental property in Cove Bay in Anguilla.

The Genesis Residences complex features 12 fully furnished one-bedroom units and one two-bedroom unit, each with living and dining areas and kitchens, all set in secluded gardens.

It is the latest hospitality project of Greig and Chrislyn Hughes, who own Genesis Properties, which was named after their daughter.

They hosted the blessing on 17 December to mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of Brian Hughes, Greig’s brother and a key figure in the family’s legacy.

The event was chaired by Gleneva Hodge, who provided a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, before Christabell Connor offered an uplifting scripture reading, setting the tone for the ceremony.

The Hughes family was represented by Malachi Hughes, who gave attendees an overview of Genesis Properties and the vision behind Genesis Residences.

He said construction on the property, which was designed to give guests a relaxing stay and showcase the island’s natural beauty, began in 2023 and was led by Anguilla’s GT Construction.

He went on to describe the opening as a welcome new chapter in Anguilla’s hospitality industry and congratulated his family on their success.

Standing to speak, Premier Ellis Webster said he was “beaming with pride” to be there, and added: “This is why we do what we do.”

He described the property as a “beautiful edifice built by Anguillian hands with Anguillian ingenuity” and said it has elevated the island.

He told the Hughes family that they continue to “stand on the shoulders of giants” and said they have legacy that the rest of Anguilla can look up to.

Also congratulating the Hughes family on their success, were tourism minister Haydn Hughes, Melisha Maccow-Niles, chair of the Anguilla Tourist Board, and Jamie Hodge.

The ceremony culminated with the official blessing of the residences, led by Pastor Rondy Isles-Carty, who offered prayers for prosperity, peace, and success for the new establishment.

It concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Genesis and Chrislyn Hughes who expressed their gratitude for the support of family, friends and the community.

Following the ribbon-cutting, guests were invited to tour the property.
