BermudAir has announced the launch of AnguillAir, a new service offering nonstop flights from Boston and Baltimore to Anguilla beginning this winter.
For the first time travellers from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) will be able to fly directly to Clayton J Lloyd International Airport (AXA).
The service will begin on 19 December and will be the Bermuda-based airline’s first major expansion since its launch in September 2023.
According to the BermudAir press office, the Boston route will run twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, leaving BOS at 10.05am and returning from AXA at 4.10pm
The Baltimore route will also run twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays, leaving BWI at 10.25am and returning from AXA at 4.25pm
The schedule will continue until April.
In a government video posted on 26 June, Premier Cora Richardson Hodge said the new connections from the north eastern US are a “major milestone” for Anguilla.
“This is exciting news as the north east corridor continues to produce more visitors to Anguilla than any other region,” she said.
The premier said the new service is due to the hard work of infrastructure minister Jose Vanterpool and his team who are responsible for the redevelopment of Anguilla’s airport.
“We are confident that the overall tourism outturn will continue to be buoyant and fuel the growth projections for our gross domestic product,” she added.
The premier said it is a significant accomplishment because it will provide access to Anguilla during the winter season.
Infrastructure minister Jose Vanterpool said securing the air service required finding the right airline partner with the fleet capacity and ability to operate safely within and outside Anguilla.
“It took focused strategic negotiations to reach to this point – establishing direct air service from out primary US market and launching the first new international flights to our redeveloped airport.”
He revealed that the routes will be covered by one of BermudAir’s Embraer 190 twin engine jet airliners.
Also speaking on the launch, tourism minister Cardigan Connor said: “No matter how exceptional our tourism product may be, it holds little value if visitors cannot easily access our destination.”
He stressed that establishing direct services from Boston, Massachusetts, and Baltimore, Maryland, will be “transformative”.
“As our accommodations grow, reliable and direct air travel from these key gateways is essential for maintaining momentum,” he said.
“With support from our local trade partners, this service helps ensure that Anguilla remains a top destination.”
In a written statement, Adam Scott, founder and CEO of BermudAir, described Anguilla as “the kind of destination that resonates deeply with discerning travellers – peaceful, refined and truly special”.
“We’re excited to offer a new way to access the island with the care, comfort and elevated service that’s become the signature of our airline,” he added.
