Anguilla’s tourism reaches new heights with record arrivals in January

Visitor numbers to Anguilla in January reached their highest levels in the past 33 years, with record-breaking stay-over arrivals contributing significantly to the total.

The Anguilla Statistics Department reported this week that 23,548 people arrived on the island during the month, with 18,653 arriving by sea and 4,895 by air.

The total represents a 14.9% increase compared to January 2024, which saw 20,487 arrivals and represents the second-highest numbers on record.

The third highest January total was in 2015 when 19,602 people visited the island.

“January 2025 recorded the highest number of arrivals, for any January period, to Anguilla over the past 33 years,” the department said in its latest tourism statistics summary report.

Stay-over visitors

Tourists who stayed over for at least one night in Anguilla during January 2025 totalled 12,812, an increase of 5.6% from 2024 when the total recorded for that month was 12,135.

This was the busiest January for stay-over visitors since records began in 1993. The second highest numbers were recored last year, and the third was in 2023 with 10,444.

Stay-over visitors represented the largest share of arrivals to Anguilla during the month at 54.4%.

The length of stay did decrease slightly, however, from 6.8 days in January 2024 to 6.6 days in January 2025.

Most arrivals – 46% – stayed for four to seven days, 32.1% for one to three days, 13.7% for eight to 15 days, 1.9% for 16 to 22, and 6.3% for 23 or more days.

Of ten source markets, eight registered increases and two declines.

The highest amount of visitors – 72.4% – came from the United States, with 6% from Canada and 5.5% from the ‘Other Europe’ market.

The German and ‘Other Europe’ markets saw declines of by 30.5% and 13.7%.

Day trip visitors

Day trip visitors to Anguilla in January 2025 totalled 10,736 – an increase of 28.5% over the same period in 2024 which saw 8,352 day visitors.

This period featured the third highest number of day trip visitors in 33 years. The first highest was in 2015 with 12,844 and the second was 10,847 in 2017.

Day trip visitors accounted for a 45.6% share of arrivals to Anguilla during the month.

All ten source markets contributed to the overall increase, with the majority coming from the United States at 52.4%, ‘Other European’ at 17.8% and Canadian at 12.2%.

The markets that recoded the largest increases over 2024 were the German and UK markets, with a 146.7% and 66.2% rise.

On 17 February, the Anguilla Statistics Department released the tourism statistics summary reports for August, September and October 2024.

Those statistics indicated that Anguilla received a total of 157,269 visitors for the first three quarters of 2024.

The department has not yet released the reports for November and December 2024.
