Anguilla’s lawyers invited to apply for bursary to gain legal experience in US

A law firm in the Turks and Caicos Islands is inviting lawyers across the Caribbean – including in Anguilla – to apply for a bursary to gain legal experience in the United States.

Stanbrook Prudhoe, which specialises in complex cross-border disputes, has partnered with international legal charity Amicus on the Stanbrook Prudhoe Bursary.

The exclusive bursary will offer one qualified lawyer the opportunity to undertake a three-month Amicus US General Volunteer Placement and cover associated fees.

A press release from Stanbrook Prudhoe said the placement will include “hands-on legal experience in US death penalty cases through one of Amicus’s 20 American affiliate offices.

Stanbrook Prudhoe co-founder Tim Prudhoe, who was an intern with Amicus in Houston, Texas, in 1998, said: “Partnering with Amicus was very important to Stanbrook Prudhoe.

“For over 30 years, they have dedicated themselves to fighting for justice for those facing a death sentence in the US.”

He added: “We hope that our bursary will play a vital role in easing financial worries, while preparing Caribbean lawyers for a career in capital defence.”

The Stanbrook Prudhoe Bursary is open to applicants until 19 December. Click here to download an application.
