During their visit, Sands and Tovar met with the Cabinet to discuss the award and delivery of a Class One World Athletics track and field facility.
This follows an announcement from the Qatar Olympic Committee in December 2025 that Anguilla would be one of 11 nations set to receive a new eco-friendly running track as part of its ‘Aim Beyond’ project.
Run in partnership with World Athletics and the Qatar Fund For Development, the aim is to empower young people and underserved communities through sport.

In the Cabinet meeting, the invited experts discussed the status of the government’s position and readiness regarding the proposed facility.
Talks focused on the acquisition and legal status of the required land, clarity on start dates and key project milestones, and the proposed design, including compliance with World Athletics standards.
The meeting also addressed supporting infrastructure, operational sustainability, and the tight completion deadline.
In a press release on 20 February, the AAAA said it has long advocated for a modern, internationally compliant track and field facility as an essential foundation for the sport’s growth.
“The proposed Class One facility represents a transformative opportunity for Anguilla, not only for local athlete development but also for the island’s ability to host regional and international events in the future.”
The AAAA reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with partners to ensure steady progress on Anguilla’s track and field facility.
“The association looks forward to continued progress in the coming months as efforts advance toward meeting the necessary deadlines and completing the facility under the World Athletics grant framework,” it said.
