Anguilla team explores tourism sustainability at global conference

A team from Anguilla attended a conference in Jamaica this month centred on advancing sustainability and resilience within the tourism industry.

The Global Tourism Resilience Conference 2025, organised by the Jamaican tourism ministry, took place from 17 to 19 February in Negril.

The event provided an opportunity for the attendees to engage with global experts and tourism professionals, exchange ideas and explore cutting-edge innovations.

Presentations focused on the practical applications of digital transformation, such as artificial intelligence, immersive realities, cybersecurity, and the ‘Internet of Things’.

A press release from the Ministry of Tourism on 25 February said the Anguilla delegation gained valuable insights into emerging trends and best practices in the tourism industry.

This included the importance of integrating digital technologies into services, the need for greater sustainability in operations, and the potential for tech in improving efficiency and visitor experiences.

The team has since outlined several key next steps and recommendations to ensure the continued development of Anguilla’s economy, the press release said.

Among those are the strengthening of capacity building efforts, collaboration on sustainable initiatives, promotion of coastal tourism sustainability and the establishment of strategic partnerships.

The delegation from Anguilla included tourism planner Joleyne Robin-Williams and Cristene Irish, project administrator in the Anguilla Renewable Project – both from the Ministry of Tourism.

They were joined by Melissa Meade, principal secretary in the Ministry of Innovation, Sustainability and the Environment, and Conrad Wilbert Fleming, president of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association.

The conference was organised in collaboration with the UN Tourism and the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre.
