Anguilla House of Assembly hosts strategic retreat to shape ten-year vision

The Anguilla House of Assembly took a major step toward shaping its long-term direction during a strategic planning retreat.

Organised by the Administration Committee, the full-day session at Da’Vida Restaurant on Crocus Bay on 11 July brought together members of the assembly and key stakeholders.

The participants engaged in focused dialogue on institutional development and the future of parliamentary governance in Anguilla.

They aligned on a refreshed vision, mission and values for the Anguilla House of Assembly, while reviewing strategic goals and the organisational structure of the Services Department.

Central to the session was the finalisation of the ‘Anguilla House of Assembly Strategic Plan 2025–2034’ – a ten-year roadmap grounded in four strategic pillars.

They are:

  • Effectiveness and efficiency – Focused on improving legislative processes and operational sustainability
  • Independence – Emphasising institutional autonomy, financial stability and democratic reform
  • Connectivity – Aimed at deepening public engagement and youth participation
  • Visibility – Committed to enhancing transparency and the assembly’s public profile

The plan will now undergo internal review and approval ahead of its formal launch.

During a meeting of the Anguilla House of Assembly on 15 July, Speaker Tara Carter said the conversations had during the retreat were “very involved”.

“I think everyone can agree that we had an incredible day… We were able to break bread. We were able to make plans,” she said.

She explained that the primary aim of the Administration Committee is to ensure continued transparency and to help the public understand the matters brought before parliament.

Carter said some of the specific plans include developing the assembly’s website, developing a transcriptionist programme, and enhancing staff training.
