University student Shayne Adamson has been awarded a US$1,500 scholarship from the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACOCI) to help fund his tuition.
The 2025 recipient of the ACOCI Scholarship Fund was announced at a ceremony at the chamber’s new office in the Mason Complex in The Quarter on 10 July.
The money will support Adamson in completing a BSc in Financial Management at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
“We are proud to partner with UWI to support a hardworking and deserving student in achieving his academic goals,” a press release from ACOCI said on 11 July.
Board member Merla Smith-Halley chaired a brief presentation programme which saw board vice president Donald Curtis give opening remarks
He emphasised the chamber’s strong commitment to supporting education and business development among young people.
Rene Henry, senior administrative assistant at UWI, then expressed appreciation to the ACOCI and encouraged Adamson to continue to work hard.
The recipient thanked the ACOCI for honouring him with the award, and expressed gratitude for the support of UWI, his family and friends, and his football coach.
Board member Jade Reymond then delivered the vote of thanks and closing remarks.
The funds for this year’s scholarship were raised through the Starry Night Business Awards and Gala, held on 24 May.
During the presentation, special thanks was given to Karen Pina and Shellecia Brooks-Johnson for their hard work and diligence in making the awards and gala a success.
Hakeera Brooks was the first recipient of the scholarship and successfully completed her degree.
