An award-winning violence reduction programme which aims to equip young people with the tools, skills and knowledge to protect themselves and others, is coming to Anguilla.
The initiative, led by the Ministries of Health and Social Development in partnership with the Community Services Planning Unit, will be delivered by UK-based organisation StreetDoctors.
Young people aged 15 to 26 are encouraged to take part in the free four-day course, which runs from 19 to 23 July (excluding 20 July) and includes full certification, meals and materials.
The training will focus on practical and psychological first aid with a focus on mental health awareness, violence prevention and community safety strategies.
Participants must attend all four sessions to receive full certification from StreetDoctors.
The public – particularly youth and community organisations – are encouraged to nominate anyone who may be interested in the training and wants to support violence reduction efforts in their communities.
They could include young people actively engaged in community service or outreach, nursing, policing, or social service fields.
It could also include those with lived experiences of violence or from affected families, or young people seeking mentorship, positive behaviour change and peer support
Names should be submitted by 8 July.
The training will take place from 9am to 3pm each day at the Department of Youth and Culture training room.
