Anguilla’s cyclists showcase stamina and speed in national championships

Anguilla’s top cyclists went head-to-head over the weekend in the highly anticipated National Cycling Championships.

Held on 21 and 22 June, the event featured two days of intense competition, a press release from the Anguilla Cycling Association said.

Saturday’s challenge began at 7am with a 14.7-kilometre individual time trial from the ANGLEC office in The Quarter to just before White Hill and back.

Ten senior cyclists took part, putting their strength and form to the test.

Coming in first with a time of 21.14.095 was Delroy Carty who was cycling for team ANGLEC in the Elite category.

Sunday’s road race drew a field of 27 cyclists, from youth to senior categories, who tackled various distances through Anguilla’s scenic roads.

The first race began at about 12.30pm, with the course modelled on the John T Memorial Cycling Race to help riders prepare for July’s upcoming competition.
