Seventeen-year-old Orecia Lewis has become the first cricketer from Anguilla to be invited to the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) Under-19 Female Cricket Training Camp.
The week-long camp, held in Nevis from 30 June to 5 July, offers young players a chance to refine their skills and compete for future selection in the Leeward Islands and Cricket West Indies teams.
Lewis’s inclusion marks a step forward for gender representation in the sport locally, and a proud achievement for the cricketing community in Anguilla.
“As Orecia prepares to embrace this unique opportunity, we wish her the very best,” a spokesperson for the Anguilla Cricket Association said in a press release on 17 June.
“[We are] proud to support her journey and look forward to her continued success on the cricket field.”
Lewis, who has been a standout participant in the Youth Cricket Anguilla programme, impressed coaches with her natural talent, discipline and commitment to fitness.
The after-school and youth training initiative, led by William Bourne and Neville Hamilton, has engaged students across the island in developing their cricketing abilities.
The Anguilla Cricket Association extended thanks to all those who supported her journey, including her parents, whose encouragement played a vital role in her success.
