Hospitality management specialist Jameel Rochester has been named the new director of tourism at the Anguilla Tourist Board.
His appointment, made by Cardigan Connor, Minister of Health, Sport, and Tourism, was announced in a press release on 26 May.
Connor said Rochester’s academic background and professional experience have equipped him with the skills to lead complex operations, manage finances, and drive strategic growth in the tourism sector.
He added: “This well-earned accomplishment is a true reflection of Jameel’s hard work [and] his commitment to Anguilla.”
Rochester brings a diverse portfolio to the role, having most recently served as assistant rooms division manager at the Wymara Resort and Villas in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Prior to that, he was general secretary of the Anguilla Football Association and has held leadership positions at several high-profile hospitality properties in Anguilla.
These include Zemi Beach House, LXR Hotels and Resorts, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla, and Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, Anguilla.
He also has experience in the financial sector through previous roles at the National Bank of Anguilla and CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank.
This marks Rochester’s second tenure with the Anguilla Tourist Board, where he has previously served as manager of destination experience, acting manager of corporate affairs and acting marketing officer.
He holds a Master of Science in International Hospitality Management from Les Roches University, and both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in General Management Studies from the University of the West Indies.
He also possesses a certificate in hospitality and tourism management.
Chairperson of the Anguilla Tourist Board, Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch welcomed Rochester’s appointment, noting the importance of strong local leadership.
“As our tourism industry rapidly evolves in response to digital innovation and shifting consumer behaviour, a new generation of leaders must take the helm,” she said.
“Their fluency with emerging communication tools and selling platforms positions them to drive engagement, enhance customer experiences, and keep the industry competitive in a global market.”
She added: “Empowering this next wave of talent is not just beneficial; it’s crucial for the sustainable growth and relevance of tourism in the modern age.”
Rochester officially assumed his new role on 15 May.
