A 39-year-old man from Anguilla has been granted bail after being charged with two counts of possession of firearm and ammunition.
Kevin J Smith from The Farrington appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 April, according to a statement from the Royal Anguilla Police Force.
He was awarded bail in the sum of EC$100,000 with one surety and ordered to comply with several conditions until his nest court date.
Smith must surrender all his travel documents, not leave Anguilla and have no contact, whether directly or indirectly, with any witness in the matter.
In October 2024, the police press office told Anguilla Focus that an operational decision had been made to withhold the release of dates when individuals are expected to reappear in court.
This followed the murder of Randy Gumbs, 33, from Bad Cox Pond, who was shot in a vehicle outside the courthouse at around 10.40am on 19 July, 2024, shortly before he was due to appear there.
“This decision mitigates the risk of potential threats or interference with judicial processes, safeguarding the security of individuals involved and ensuring that there are no opportunities for targeted attacks or disruptions during court proceedings,” police said.
