Man arrested after loaded gun found in luggage during departure checks

A 25-year-old man from Island Harbour was arrested after he allegedly attempting to leave Anguilla with a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his luggage.

Junior Alexander Astacio Rogers was stopped during a security check at Blowing Point Ferry Terminal on Saturday, 22 March.

Port personnel examined his luggage and discovered the concealed weapon, a police press release said.

Officers from the Royal Anguilla Police Force immediately arrested and detained him.

On 24 March, Astacio Rogers was formally charged with multiple offences including possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He appeared in Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 25 March, where he was granted bail in the sum of EC$150,000 with one surety.

His bail conditions include no contact with witnesses, no actions that could result in a breach of peace and surrender of passport.
