Bankie Banx’s eclectic independent music festival returns to Anguilla

The Caribbean’s longest-running independent music festival Moonsplash returns to Anguilla next week with a vibrant and eclectic lineup.

The 35th festival will take place from 13 to 16 March at the Dune Preserve music bar, promising a unique blend of music, culture and island vibes.

“Moonsplash is about so much more than just music,” said long-time MC Oluwakemi Linda Banks.

“It’s about connecting with people, soaking up the beauty of Anguilla, and letting the rhythms of the island wash over you.”

Founded in 1991 by Anguillian reggae legend Bankie Banx and his friend Sheriff Bob Saidenberg, Moonsplash is renowned for its diverse lineup and intimate atmosphere.

Over the years, it has welcomed global stars such as Jimmy Buffett, Toots and The Maytals, Buju Banton, Bunny Wailer, Culture, Marcia Griffiths, Freddie McGregor and Tarrus Riley.

This year’s festival promises to be just as electrifying, featuring an exciting mix of international and local talent set against a stunning backdrop.

The line-up features:

  • 13 March: Kick-off cocktail party with artist meet and greet
  • 14 March: Reggae Night with Kumar Fyah and Friends, Turbulence, Ras I, and Khalia with performances from Dennis Warrington and Olaide Banks
  • 15 March: Legends Night will welcome The Iconic Burning Spear, with performances from Bankie Banx and Junior Jazz, along with Island Pulse Band.
  • 16 March: Sunday’s festival begins with a day-time concert culminating with performances from The Moonsplash Allstars, Mishka, The Smokey Reefers, Jaylan Johan and more.

A press release from the Anguilla Tourist Board said: “The festival serves as a platform for aspiring artists and creatives on the island, providing opportunities to interact with industry professionals.”

It added that the economic impact of Moonsplash extends beyond the festival grounds, benefiting vendors across various businesses on Anguilla.

As part of the community outreach, Moonsplash artists will visit the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School on 13 March and His Majesty’s Prison on 17 March.

Tickets for Moonsplash start at US$50 and are available from www.moonsplashfestival.ai
