Anguilla Football Association (AFA)’s Referees Department has marked a significant milestone by holding its first official FIFA fitness test.
The test is designed to evaluate the physical endurance and agility of referees and assistant referees, a press release from AFA said on 15 July.
Male referees are expected to complete six 40-metre sprints, each in six seconds, followed by a 4,000-metre interval run.
This interval consists of a 75-metre run within 15 seconds and a 25-metre walk within 18 seconds, repeated 40 times.
Female referees are required to complete the 75-metre run in 17 seconds and the 25-metre walk in 20 seconds.
Four male referees and four female football players successfully passed the test.
“This achievement underscores the dedication and physical prowess of the participants, setting a high standard for future candidates,” AFA said in its press release.
FIFA match officials must pass this rigorous fitness assessment each year to qualify for its international referee list.
The AFA Referees Department has scheduled another FIFA fitness test for 26 August in preparation for the 2025 AFA FIFA nominations.
“This upcoming test will offer another opportunity for aspiring referees to demonstrate their fitness and commitment to excellence in officiating,” AFA said.
