The Ministry of Health is urging the public to maintain good hygiene practices following an increase in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in Anguilla.
In a press release on 5 July, the ministry said the increase over the past few weeks coincides with surges in cases being seen elsewhere, including the United States.
“As we prepare to celebrate an historic ’50’ summer festival, let us make every effort to stop the spread of the virus and to prevent a large scale outbreak,” it continued.
“Be reminded that frequent handwashing and the practice of good hygiene remain the best ways to protect yourself and prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well as the flu and other germs.”
The ministry listed several other ways that people can avoid spreading or catching the disease:
- Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill.
- Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
- Stay at home if feeling sick. Continue to be mindful of this for upcoming mass gathering events during the carnival celebrations.
- Parents are also asked to refrain from sending sick children to daycare, summer camps, or any settings involving other children.
- Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Symptomatic people, especially those living with vulnerable people, should consider mask wearing inside the homes in addition to hygiene precautions.
