Two Anguillian teachers have earned places on the Dean’s List at Western Illinois University (WIU).
The honourees are Alba Fleming and Deleon Hughes, the Department of Education announced on 16 January, adding that they “continue to serve as ambassadors of academic excellence”.
Fleming is pursuing a bachelor of education in foreign language education, majoring in Spanish, while Hughes is enrolled in a bachelor of science in agricultural education with a minor in general business.

Provost of Western Illinois University, Dr Mark Mossman, said the university continues to be impressed by the performance of Anguillian and Caribbean students.
“Caribbean students, in general, are a marker of excellence at WIU. They have truly enhanced the institution,” he said in the Department of Education press release.
The Dean’s List is issued on a semester basis and recognises students who achieve a grade point average (GPA) between 3.6 and a perfect 4.0.
Fleming and Hughes were placed on the list for the autumn 2025 semester.
Anguilla’s chief education officer Bren Romney added that the teachers are studying on scholarships through a partnership between Western Illinois University and the Government of Anguilla.
“I look forward to the continued positive impact that training, professional development and continuing education will have on our education system,” he said.
