AARF offers free spay and neuter surgeries to Anguilla’s pet owners

A year-long initiative offering free spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats has been launched in Anguilla.

The Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF) is running the Free Fix 2026 project to help reduce the number of unwanted animals on the island.

Pet owners can schedule to bring their dogs and cats to Morlens Veterinary Clinic in Sandy Hill, a co-sponsor of the project, to have the procedures at no cost.

Johanna Pasila, co-chair of the AARF shelter committee, told Anguilla Focus that the animal welfare organisation is excited to launch the campaign.

“The project gives us a chance to make a significant impact on reducing the number of unwanted kittens and puppies being born in Anguilla,” she said.

Pasila said AARF’s spay and neuter committee chair Suzie Donahue spearheaded the programme which aims to decrease the stray animal population.

“While the shelter is the most visible part of our work, providing temporary care for unwanted cats and dogs and rehoming them through our adoption programme is, in reality, damage control,” she said.

“The greatest impact AARF has on animal welfare comes from our education programme which promotes responsible pet ownership, and our spay and neuter programme.”

She stressed that in order for the campaign to succeed the entire community of Anguilla must come together to participate.

Free transportation to and from the clinic on Long Path Road is available for pet owners who require assistance getting their animals to appointments.

Anyone interested in participating can call (264) 497-4600 or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment.
