The new TRUE Anguilla magazine is out now – and it’s all about connections

A brand new edition of the annual lifestyle and travel magazine, TRUE Anguilla, has arrived, and this year it celebrates the ties between the people, places and experiences that define island life.

‘The Connections Issue’ – the 11th instalment of the popular publication – examines how on an island with a population of less than 13,000, the community is bound together in countless ways.

Publisher Trudy Nixon told Anguilla Focus that Anguilla’s small size is its strength, giving it a warmth and familiarity to visitors that larger destinations struggle to achieve.

She explained that the idea of ‘six degrees of separation’ does not apply in Anguilla, where everyone is just one or two connections away from anyone else.

“The person that served you a drink last night may also be the person whose aunt’s Airbnb you’re staying in. Everybody is connected,” she said.

Twin cover stars

This year’s striking cover image features twins Krystal Webster and Krystie Permuy – primary school teachers and the creative force behind jewellery brand Kwin | Handmade in Anguilla.

When Nixon first met the pair they struck her as “so beautiful and so similar”, adding that they are “very poised, intelligent, articulate, incredibly well connected young women”.

They agreed to be photographed for the magazine in various settings, from fashion boutiques to the sun‑drenched sands of Meads Bay, with Devin Archibald of KSharp Media capturing the images.

One image stood out to Nixon as having cover quality – the twins in Anguilla’s signature orange, embracing against the island’s turquoise waters – and she recalls thinking, “We got it.”

The latest publication also features Anguillian twins Tweety and Soya Gumbs on Rendezvous Bay (main photo), familiar faces in the island’s hospitality scene.

A packed publication

Alongside stories of connections, the 164-page glossy magazine includes regular content including business spotlights, an island map and a directory of local companies.

In addition to Nixon, who edits the magazine and writes much of the content, the team includes co-founder and designer Orrett Wynter, advertising manager Lily Moses, and photographers Kevin and Devin Archibald.

TRUE Anguilla also showcases work from a range of contributing writers, both residents of Anguilla and regular visitors – including Leigh Fazzina, Vanessa Croft, Ariel Bushay and several others.

The brand reaches beyond the magazine with TRUE Anguilla TV, broadcast on Channel 8 Digicel, which explores Anguilla’s vibrant culture, local businesses, hotels and attractions.
