Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School pupil wins cross-island spelling bee

Glory Hnin from Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School claimed the top prize in this year’s cross-island Rotary Club spelling bee.

The competition final, held on 30 November at the American University of the Caribbean in St Martin, featured spellers from primary schools in both Anguilla and St Martin.

A statement from Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School praised all participants for their “remarkable composure, sharp intellect and the power of dedicated preparation.”

It added: “After a nail-biting competition that culminated in a dramatic spell-off, Anguilla’s representatives emerged dominant, securing both top titles.”

The school offered “monumental congratulations” to Glory Hnin, noting that her “poise and precision under pressure was truly inspiring.”

It credited the achievement to a collective effort, thanking coaches Sheila Harrigan, Anuja Unhale, Kimberly Fleming, and Trevlyn Richards for their guidance.

Appreciation was also extended to both of the islands’ supporting Rotary Clubs, the Department of Education, Funtime Charters, parents, teachers and community members.

“Congratulations to all the participating schools for making this year’s competition a resounding and inspiring success,” the statement said.

“Let’s continue to encourage and invest in our youth, their talent is indeed the future of Anguilla.”

From Orealia Kelly Primary School, Arudra Bharrat and Elenor Bradshaw earned second and fourth place, respectively.

The school said it was “incredibly proud” of the pupils: “Your hard work, confidence, and courage truly shone on stage. You both represented Orealia Kelly with excellence and Panther pride.”

It also thanked the teachers and coaches who prepared the students and congratulated Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School on its success.
