The personal use and possession of a small amount of cannabis was decriminalised for adults in Anguilla in 2024 thanks to the introduction of a new government policy.

It said that residents aged 18 or over can cultivate up to four cannabis plants and carry up to 10 grammes on their person, but its use must be contained to residential or private areas.

The pilot project came into effect on 1 December, and will be in place for a year while the government gathers data on its effectiveness.

It was crafted through recommendations from the governor-appointed Drugs Advisory Council.

The policy is primarily a directive – there is a separate internal policy document for the police force that guides non-enforcement of the law.

Anguilla cannot pursue legalisation of cannabis due to an international convention on narcotics which has been signed by the UK.
